Note: the AMS derives the daily net income from the official assessment base of the relevant year (revalued). This calculator estimates it from the regular monthly net (× 12 ÷ 365). Emergency assistance, pension advance, training benefits and case-by-case add-ons/deductions are not modelled. The AMS decision is binding.
| Total amount over the benefit period | – |
Note: with the KBG account the total is fixed (€15,016.10 for one parent, €18,759.84 for both); the daily rate follows from the chosen benefit period. Earnings limit for the KBG account: €18,000 or 60% of prior income per year; income-dependent KBG: €8,600 per year. The KBG-account supplement, partnership bonus (€1,000) and the family-time bonus are not modelled. The health insurer's information is binding.

| Commuter allowance per year | – |
| Commuter euro (tax credit, per year) | – |
| Tax saving per month | – |
| Tax saving per year | – |
Note: the small/large classification and the exact distance are determined bindingly by the Federal Ministry of Finance commuter calculator (pendlerrechner.bmf.gv.at); this calculator only reproduces the amounts under § 16 Income Tax Act. No entitlement with a company car or a mostly tax-free employer transit pass. The tax saving requires that enough wage tax is due.
From "what am I entitled to" to "how much will I get"
The Benefits Check shows which benefits match your situation. This calculator quantifies three of them: unemployment benefit (55% of daily net income, with a supplementary amount and family supplement), childcare payment (flat-rate or income-dependent) and the commuter allowance including the tax saving.
Unemployment benefit
The basic amount is 55% of the daily net income, at most €78.77 per day (2026). If it falls below the compensation-allowance reference rate (€43.61/day), a supplementary amount is added – capped at 60% of net income, or 80% with a family supplement. Unemployment benefit is paid 30 times per month, without a 13th/14th payment.
Childcare payment (Kinderbetreuungsgeld)
With the KBG account the total is fixed and spread over the chosen period: €15,016.10 for one parent (365–851 days), €18,759.84 for both (456–1,063 days). The daily rate ranges from €41.14 (shortest) to €17.65 (longest). Income-dependent KBG replaces 80% of prior earnings, at most €80.12 per day, for up to 365 days (426 days if both parents claim).
Commuter allowance
If public transport is reasonable, the small commuter allowance applies from 20 km (€58 / 113 / 168 per month by distance). If it is not possible or reasonable, the large one applies from 2 km (€31 / 123 / 214 / 306 per month). On top comes the commuter euro: €6 per one-way kilometre per year (2026), deducted directly from wage tax.

Frequently asked questions
- How long do I receive unemployment benefit?
- The minimum entitlement is 20 weeks. After at least 156 weeks of employment in the last five years it is 30 weeks; after 312 weeks in ten years and from age 40, 39 weeks; after 468 weeks in fifteen years and from age 50, 52 weeks. Emergency assistance follows after that.
- Is unemployment benefit paid 14 times a year?
- No. It is calculated as a daily rate and paid for 30 days a month; there is no 13th or 14th payment. The annual total is therefore noticeably below 55% of your previous annual net pay, even though the daily rate is based on exactly that ratio.
- Childcare allowance account or income-related childcare allowance?
- With the account the total is fixed – €15,016.10 for one parent, €18,759.84 for both – and spread over the period you choose: the shorter the period, the higher the daily rate. The income-related version replaces 80% of previous earnings, capped at €80.12 per day, but only for up to 365 days (426 if both parents claim). For higher earners taking a short break, the income-related version is usually better.
- When am I entitled to the commuter allowance?
- If public transport is reasonable, from 20 kilometres one way (small commuter allowance). If it is not, from just 2 kilometres (large commuter allowance). In both cases you must commute on at least eleven days a month to receive the full amount.
- Why do I save less than the commuter allowance is worth?
- Because the allowance is a deduction from taxable income, not from the tax itself. What it actually saves depends on your marginal rate – at 40% it is 40 cents per euro of allowance. Only the commuter euro of €6 per kilometre per year works one to one, because it is a tax credit.
